A British 'staycation' destination

28 July 2009:  an essentially British hotel in Wells with scrumptious food is the perfect antidote to this soggy part of the British summer, I should know...

I heard on the radio this morning that the owners of Wookey Hole Caves , a truly British tourist destination in Wells, Somerset, are looking for a Witch.  I’ve been racking my brain to think if know a suitable candidate but none spring to mind, although Wookey Hole brings back happy memories of a truly fantastic hotel I've had the pleasure of staying at recently.

If you're ever looking for a real treat weekend away, then I couldn’t think of anywhere better than Milllers at Glencot House. Owned by Thomas Miller of Miller's Antiques fame, the house is packed to the brim with antiques and is known for its "vintage luxury" It's really not the place for minimalists!  The food was superb and the dining room as eccentric as the rest of the house; there are piles of paperbacks all over the place ripe for the picking, and if you start reading one and can't put it down they invite you to take it away with you.

It's my hot tip for a ‘staycation’ destination - and I reckon it's perfect any time of year! Check it out at : www.glencothouse.co.uk.

Enjoy!

David

PS: Apparently they have a London hotel - Miller's Residence, which promises the same luxury in Notting Hill but without a gastronauts restaurant  - and right next door to one of my favourite places to mooch Books for Cooks.
