Free Spanish food & wine festival
Tapas Fantasticas, is back in London for three days from Friday 25th – Sunday 27th June.
If you're looking for something to go with this lovely weather can I suggest a trip to London to visit ‘Tapas Fantasticas’ the Spanish food and wine festival. This is the third year of the free festival, which celebrates Rioja wine and Spanish tapas and we get to taste a variety of red, white and rosé wines from some of Rioja’s most famous vineyards.
There will be a wide selection of tapas from London’s Spanish restaurants as well as tapas chefs from the home of Rioja, who will be flying in for the weekend. This year, I understand 40 + Rioja wineries will be exhibiting, and the wines are available to buy on the day as well. Most excellent!
Last year’s event saw over 10,000 people attend the event at Brick Lane and as a result this year a more central venue hopes to beat last years numbers, confirmed as Potters Fields Park, by Tower Bridge. This year there will be live cookery demonstrations by Spanish chef José Pizarro, some of you might well know his work as he was formerly from Borough Market’s Brindisa restaurant. There are some great wine tasting seminars throughout the day and tickets cost £10 per 30 minute session and include five sample glasses of wine. You can book these via the website. In terms of entertainment there will be live Spanish music and a shaded area especially for children, where there will be colouring and other activities for them to participate in.
Our catering managers are really buying into the tapas trend. It's great for hospitality, but we've decided it shouldn't be limited to hospitality and events alone - it's great for bartlett mitchell cafes, restaurants, theatre bars - and at three small plates for a £5 it's a bit of a treat, but a bit of a bargain. To complement these tasty morsels, sherry is particularly great - it's a shame more of our venues don't have an alcohol license. Have you tried Hidalgo's Manzanilla, sabroso!
