This month saw the return of the trade show lunch! at the Business Design Centre Islington.

This event has grown over the past 6 years and has developed into a great showcase for current foods trends and those quirky innovators.

The best thing is, it’s all about food and drink so for us foodies it’s an excellent use of our time visiting this event. For me it was a great opportunity to network with suppliers from the past, those we are currently trading with and a chance to identify new suppliers with brilliant ideas who we could trade with in the future.

One of the ‘out there’ products was Birch Water. A detoxing super- liquid, derived from the sap of a Birch tree which is about to challenge the current holder of the healthiest drink, Coconut Water.

It claims to be good for rehydration and contains Saponin, which occurs in many plant foods, such as soybeans, peas, herbs and vegetables as well as the sap from Birch trees. Eating Saponin, it is claimed, may help lower your cholesterol and reduce your risk of heart disease, your immune system may also benefit as well.

Tried it and it tasted sooo much better than coconut water!!!

Other stands I visited were Flour Power City Bakery , The Soho Sandwich Company, Honeyrose Organic Bakery and The Original Curry Company – all potential suppliers to bartlett mitchell.

There were plenty of tasty samples available to try from Canadian flat bread pizza (really yum) to a delicious range of gluten free tray bakes produced by Heavenly cakes under the brand of Betty Bakes. The range includes Caramel Shortcake, Toffee Crisp, Lemon Meringue , Eton Mess, Very Berry Flap jack etc etc…
And yes I tried them all!!

The date for next year’s event is 22 – 23 September 2016; it’s definitely worth the trip, so see you there!!
